Getting started
Create your first task
Create a TaskShelf task, choose its team, add an assignee and due date, and reuse a template or an unfinished draft.
Last updated
Sign in and open a workspace where you can create tasks. Choose an existing team to work in.
From an idea to a task
A task records a piece of work in a team. Start with a clear title, then add the context someone needs to take it forward.
- Open your team’s Tasks page and choose New task. You can also press C when you are not typing in a field.
- Check the team shown in the New task window. Select the team name or key if the task belongs elsewhere.
- Enter a Task title. For example: Launch Q4 campaign. In Add a description…, explain the outcome and what needs to happen.
- Choose a status from the team’s workflow. Add a priority, an Assignee, and a Due date when they are useful. You can also choose labels, a Project, a Sprint, or an Estimate.
- Choose Create task, or press Command + Enter on Mac or Ctrl + Enter on Windows and Linux. If an image is uploading, wait for it to finish first.
Give the next person enough context
Here is an example description for Launch Q4 campaign. Replace the details with your own work; this is a writing example, not a built-in template.
- Outcome: Publish the campaign landing page and email announcement.
- Before launch: Confirm the final copy, check the signup flow, and get design approval.
- Done when: The page is live, the announcement is sent, and the team has checked both links.
Use a template for repeated work
- In the New task window, choose Apply template.
- Select a template available to this team. Templates can fill in the title, description, and task properties.
- Review the filled-in fields, update anything specific to this task, and choose Create task.
Continue a draft or create several tasks
If you close an unfinished task, opening New task again in the same workspace can show Restore your unsaved draft? Choose Restore to continue or Discard to remove that draft. Drafts are stored in that browser; this is not cross-device draft sync.
Turn on Create more before creating a task to keep the window open for the next one. The title and other fields reset; check the team and project before continuing.
If you cannot create the task
- Add a title if Create task is disabled.
- Wait while the button says Uploading image….
- Check that a team is selected and that the status belongs to it. Changing the team also changes the available statuses and sprints.
- If the app says the workspace is read-only, ask a workspace admin to review its status.
