Find your way with keyboard shortcuts
Learn TaskShelf shortcuts for creating tasks, opening the command menu, moving through lists, and submitting work on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Open a workspace in TaskShelf. Unless a shortcut is for editing text, move focus out of a text field before using it.
Start with three shortcuts
Press C to create a task, / to open search and commands, and ? to open the in-app keyboard shortcuts sheet. These are useful starting points; you can learn the rest as you need them.
| Action | Mac | Windows / Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Create task | C | C |
| Search or run a command | Command + K or / | Ctrl + K or / |
| Show keyboard shortcuts | ? | ? |
| Toggle sidebar | [ | [ |
| Toggle right panel | ] | ] |
Use the command menu
When you are inside a submenu and the search field is empty, Backspace takes you back. Inside a rich-text editor, / has a different job: it opens formatting commands such as headings, lists, and code.
- Press Command + K on Mac or Ctrl + K on Windows and Linux. You can also press / when you are not editing text.
- Type to find an item or command. Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight.
- Press Enter to open or run the highlighted item. Press Escape to close the menu.
Move through tasks
For keyboard dragging on a board, Tab to a card and use Space to pick it up or drop it. In a task peek panel, Escape closes the panel.
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Move focus down | Down arrow or J |
| Move focus up | Up arrow or K |
| Open the focused task | Enter |
| Extend selection down | Shift + Down arrow or Shift + J |
| Extend selection up | Shift + Up arrow or Shift + K |
| Toggle selection of the focused row | X |
| Clear selection | Escape |
| Open Filter on the team’s Tasks page | F |
Submit without reaching for the mouse
In the create-task or create-project window, Command + Enter on Mac or Ctrl + Enter on Windows and Linux submits the form. The same combination submits a comment or saves a comment edit.
In rich text, @ opens teammate mentions. Command + B / Ctrl + B makes text bold, and Command + I / Ctrl + I makes it italic.
If a shortcut does something unexpected
- Check where focus is. Letters should type normally inside inputs, text areas, and rich-text editors.
- Close an open menu or dialog before trying a page-level shortcut.
- Use the in-app ? sheet to see shortcuts for the screen you are working in, including Inbox, Requests, and Plan.
- Command / Ctrl + number shortcuts for jumping between teams are available in the desktop app. In a web browser, those combinations remain browser tab shortcuts.
